I Promise to Remind Myself to Explore Someplace New
I live in one of the most places in the United States - Southern California. I’m a short distance from great running, hiking and biking trails. Ones that I repeat often and it never gets old — the beautiful views, changing flowers and varied landscape. I suspect you have a number of similar trails that you enjoy where you live. Doing them over and over and challenging yourself each time.
My daughter moved to New Zealand for a year on a work visa. Other than missing her desperately and wanting to see here, I didn’t have a burning desire to visit. I could not have been more wrong. New Zealand and specifically the South Island where she lived was spectacular. I was thrilled to spend time with her and meet the wonderful people who live there. We had the most amazing outdoor adventures — running and hiking — around beautiful lakes and up to impossible-to-describe glaciers.
I will not be so reticent to visit a new place for outdoor venture in the future. Quite the opposite — I will now seek new adventures in new places. If you aren’t naturally an explorer outside your local geography, I sincerely encourage you to seek some new adventures in far away places.
